Runwell Hospital
On behalf of South Essex NHS Partnership Foundation Trust, Pectel was charged with the responsibility of removing the biological hazards present on the first floor where intruders had entered the building, and the ground floor where vermin have entered the building, and disinfect all areas concerned.
Works involved the removal and disposal of the asbestos-contaminated medical files from various locations within the redundant building under semi-controlled conditions and carrying out an environmental clean where the files are removed.
Following the collapse of the ceiling within the main hall of Runwell Hospital, Essex, Pectel Emergency Response Teams attended the incident. The team demonstrated the capability to ensure experienced, competent personnel, materials and equipment, and analytical support personnel are on the ground within hours.
The initial response came from Pectel’s Risk Management personnel who arrived on site within an hour to assist the Fire and Rescue Services and offer advice on the required hazardous area entry protocols.
Once on site, risk assessments had been carried out and the information relayed back to our incident desk, incident-specific response teams were deployed and effected isolation and clean up of the area. After comprehensive testing and monitoring of the area it was handed back, allowing all hospital staff to return to their offices, for the kitchen to fully function and the switchboard to return to its 24-hour, 7-day service.
