London Borough of Bromley Grouped Schools
Many education facilities across the UK feature relatively old buildings, built during times when asbestos was used for its versatility and properties as a fireproofing material. Asbestos was later found to be extremely harmful to health and sadly a causal factor of many respiratory deaths through the inhalation of the disturbed asbestos fibres.
Increasingly over the years, educational establishments and teaching associations have been stepping up attempts to remove asbestos from within premises, more recently through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative.
On behalf of our client, London Borough of Bromley Pectel undertook the successful removal of asbestos from over 50 schools in the borough.
One of the first projects carried out was a ceiling investigation at Hayes Primary School. The scheme involved accessing and measuring the ceiling void and cleaning of the surrounding areas using the dust suppression techniques and environmental cleaning methods. The ceiling void was found to contain asbestos debris and contaminated insulation quilt, the works was planned and carried out in the school summer holidays to reduce third party access.
Shortly after completion of work at Hayes Primary School works commenced at the Beaverwood School for Girls, where Pectel were called in by the London Borough of Bromley to carry out an initial duct investigation to of the corridor duct. The investigations lead to the discovery of asbestos coated pipes and resulted in the removal of the asbestos coated pipe and environmental clean of the corridor duct.
Pectel has continued its success in educational establishments working in partnership with schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK.
