edgeware station

Edgware Station

Edgware station is a busy London Underground station located at the far North end of the Northern Line. Due to programme constraints and the scope of work required, this project could not be carried out by utilising traditional engineering hours working (3 hours working time). Our challenge was to remove the hazardous material safely and efficiently within a fully operational rail environment, fully restricting public and staff interfaces with the works.

In a close working relationship with our sub-contractor, NSS access solutions, our proposal to our client was to construct a bespoke self contained access deck across and above the full width of the canopy and platforms, with a restricted access bridge across tracks to a secure compound.

Demonstrating full compliance with the stringent London Underground engineering standards, the design for the crash decking was classified and approved as ‘CAT3’ temporary works design. Once full design approval was obtained some 1440m² of access decking was installed within a single 52 hour possession.

Following the successful completion of the fully contained access system, Pectel’s directly-employed operatives removed the roofing sheets above the canopy and lead paint from the canopy support trusses below.
